Reverse osmosis:
pure water within reach

Find out how reverse osmosis technology can turn your tap water into water of exceptional purity, right at home.

What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis is a water purification process that uses a semi-permeable membrane to remove ions, unwanted molecules and larger particles from drinking water.

It is one of the most advanced and most effective water filtration technologies available today.

A technology born of cutting-edge research and developed for NASA

Reverse osmosis originated in the United States, when scientists, notably at the University of California (UCLA), began looking for ways to desalinate seawater.

How reverse osmosis has evolved

Early research focused on developing membranes that could reject salt while letting water through, leaving it extremely soft and pure.

Reverse osmosis was later developed for water recycling by NASA, to meet the needs of astronauts on missions in space. It allowed astronauts to recycle water during long space missions, notably aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Over the decades, the technology has been refined and adapted for use at home. Its potential has been recognised for treating and filtering every type of water, even heavily polluted water.

Where is reverse osmosis used?

Thanks to its unmatched effectiveness, reverse osmosis is now widely used wherever the highest water quality is required:

NASA and space exploration

Reverse osmosis is essential for recycling water aboard space stations, guaranteeing a supply of drinking water in extreme conditions.

Research laboratories

Reverse osmosis is used to prepare ultra-pure solutions and to keep experiments free from contamination.

Armed forces

Reverse osmosis treatment units are deployed to supply drinking water to troops in places where fresh water is scarce.

Electronics industry

For rinsing sensitive electronic components, where even the slightest impurity can do damage.

Restaurants and cafés

Many fine-dining establishments use reverse osmosis to bring out the taste of their food and drink. Pure water brings out the aromas of coffee and tea.

At home

More and more households are choosing reverse osmosis to improve the quality of the water they drink and cook with.

How does reverse osmosis work?

The reverse osmosis process is relatively simple but remarkably effective. Tap water is put under pressure that forces it through a semi-permeable membrane.

This membrane is designed to let water molecules through while blocking most contaminants. The water is filtered down to 0.0001 micron!

At this stage, only H₂O water molecules and a few minerals pass through the membrane, removing 99.98% of the other components and pollutants from the water.

Contaminants our system removes

Here is a detailed list of the substances our reverse osmosis system can remove from your tap water:

Heavy metals

  • - Lead
  • - Mercury
  • - Arsenic
  • - Cadmium
  • - Chromium
  • - Copper
  • - Iron
  • - Aluminium

Chemicals

  • - Chlorine and chloramines
  • - Fluorides
  • - Pesticides and herbicides
  • - Pharmaceutical residues
  • - VOCs
  • - THMs
  • - PFAS (TFA)
  • - Benzene, toluene, xylene

Micro-organisms

  • - Bacteria
  • - Viruses
  • - Cysts (Giardia, Cryptosporidium)
  • - Radon and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM)

Sediment

  • - Sand
  • - Rust
  • - Clay
  • - Colloids

The innovation behind our Reverse Osmosis 2.0 system

With Colibri Pure Water, we have pushed reverse osmosis technology further to give you a better solution:

Far less waste water

Unlike traditional reverse osmosis systems, which can waste a significant amount of water (between 3 and 5 L), our system uses advanced technology that keeps waste water to a minimum: 1 L of filtered water for every 1 L of waste water.

For comparison: a dishwasher uses 10-15 L, a washing machine 70 L, and making a single empty plastic bottle takes more than 2 L of water.

Post-treatment remineralisation

Our system includes a unique post-treatment stage that puts beneficial minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) back into the water.

The result: pure, balanced water that tastes good, comparable to mountain water (e.g. SPA Reine, Mont Roucous, Montcalm).

Ultra-fast flow rate

Fill your 1 L jug in 20 seconds! Unlike conventional systems, our flow rate is optimised: first litre in 20 sec, a glass in 4 sec. The tank refills automatically, so pure water is always ready when you are.

Quick, simple cartridge changes

No more awkward unscrewing! Our ultra-simple mechanism lets you change cartridges in under 10 seconds. Light and sound indicators mean you are always warned in good time.
